What is Veterinary Appreciation Day™?
Established by Trupanion in 2015, Veterinary Appreciation Day recognizes veterinary professionals each year on June 18, celebrating the critical role that these every day heroes play in the lives of our pets and families.
What are the Veterinary Appreciation Day Awards and who is eligible for nomination?
In recognition of Veterinary Appreciation Day and all the veterinary community does to support our beloved pets, Trupanion, the leading provider of medical insurance for cats and dogs, is inviting pet parents and vet professionals to nominate an extraordinary hospital team member they know or work with. Because it takes everyone to make a veterinary hospital run smoothly, all roles are eligible for nomination!
In 2024, we have two award categories; Veterinarian of the Year and Veterinary Professional of the Year. These titles serve to acknowledge and showcase the hard work and dedication of the veterinary community, spread awareness about the many roles in the profession, and highlight the impact that veterinary teams have on pet parents and colleagues. Please note that nominees for Veterinarian of the Year must be a licensed Veterinarian. Official contest rules can be accessed here.
Who can nominate a Veterinarian or Veterinary Professional? Do I have to be a Trupanion member?
No, you do not have to be a Trupanion member to participate in the nomination or voting process. We encourage anyone (hello pet parents and veterinary professionals!) to submit a nomination recognizing an extraordinary team member or someone in the veterinary community.

How do I vote for a nominee?
You can vote for a nominee on the Nominee Showcase page beginning on May 17 through May 24. Simply click on the nominee’s title and press “Vote for [Nominee Name]” — those you have voted for will display a gold heart on the tile.

What happens if someone receives more than one nomination?
As we know, veterinary professionals have a far-reaching impact on the communities they serve - so we're not surprised to see some individuals receive two, three, or even four nominations!
Since each story helps paint a holistic picture of the nominee, we will be featuring all stories we have captured consent for. For voting, don't worry! If someone has multiple nominations, rest assured all will be tallied together for the final count.
How many times can I vote? Can I vote for more than one nominee?
There is no limit to the number of votes and because there is an incredible amount of inspiring individuals within the veterinary community, you can vote for as many nominees as you like.
When and where will the winners be announced?
The winners of Veterinarian of the Year and Veterinary Professional of the Year will be announced on Veterinary Appreciation Day, June 18. Are there any prizes?
Absolutely! All approved nominees will receive a Certificate of Nomination delivered via email. Our two winners will also receive a special certificate to showcase their achievement, an exclusive media toolkit packed with resources to amplify their success, and let’s not forget the spotlight! The Veterinarian of the Year and the Veterinary Professional of the Year will be featured in a dedicated press release as well as Trupanion’s communications throughout 2024 to shine an even brighter light on their remarkable accomplishments.
